With over 5,500 participants and counting, we have become one of the world’s largest studies on infectious disease using data from wearable health monitoring devices. We are attempting to build an algorithm that will use this data to detect COVID-19 infection before symptom onset, as self-isolating before becoming contagious is crucial in preventing disease spread. Coming together is the first step towards tackling any challenge, and people’ contributions bring us closer to alleviating the global health crisis.
Initial results
We launched this project a few months ago after realizing the severity of the global pandemic. Thanks to your data, our team was able to collect, analyze, and discuss some initial results within a few weeks. The first two papers will soon be published and available to the scientific community, an essential step in our battle against COVID-19. Here’s a preview (pre-print).
MyPHD App
— Improving it every day!
We are working hard to improve the user experience. As a small team funded mostly by donations and gifts, it takes time. We truly appreciate all your feedback and your patience, so thanks for bearing with us.
Our team is working on making a 2.0 version of our app, MyPHD. We included many suggestions that came from you, so thank you again for being an active part of the creative process.
Looking ahead
Our study is far from over – we are still recruiting volunteers and preparing for our study to enter Phase II. Phase II will be similar Phase I (the one you are actively involved in), except that we want to validate our findings in Phase II. We are trying to set up an alert system that, via MyPHD, will ask participants to report symptoms when we detect potentially significant changes in their wearable health data. When Phase II officially launches, you will be the first ones to know and invited to join.
